The Buccaneer Commission received a startup donation in the amount of $100,000 from the Port of Corpus Christi to establish an endowment with the purpose of carrying on the mission of the Buccaneer Commission. Specifically, this donation will help build a forever fund that fuels scholarships and supports the Buc Days Port of Corpus Christi Leadership Program.
“I am ecstatic the Port of Corpus Christi has stepped up to give the initial donation to start this endowment. In the short-term, our goal is to reach $1 million”, said Johnny Philipello, Buccaneer Commission President & CEO. “The earnings from this endowment will enable us to grow our giving annually.”
“The Port of Corpus Christi has long been a strong supporter of promoting education in the Coastal Bend region because the youth of today will be the leaders of tomorrow,” said Sean Strawbridge, Port of Corpus Christi Chief Executive Officer. “The donation we have announced today is a furthering of that commitment because of the belief we all have in the potential of our young people to continue strengthening our region in the decades to come.”
