The Buccaneer Commission is proud to present the 2026 Buc Days Horticulture Competition, an engaging and educational event that highlights the art and science of plant cultivation. With $3,000 in total prize money awarded, this competition gives young Texans a chance to showcase their horticulture skills and creativity through hands-on projects.

The Buc Days Horticulture Competition encourages youth to explore the world of plant growth and care — from herbs and vegetables to succulents and flowering plants. Participants nurture their entries over several months, documenting growth progress and care through photo submissions and reports before bringing their live plants to the Buc Days Festival Grounds for judging.

This event provides an exciting opportunity for students to learn responsibility, develop horticultural knowledge, and take pride in producing healthy, thriving plants that reflect their dedication and effort.

$25 fee for each entry in this competition. There are eight classes in which participants can enter. Each participant will be permitted to enter plants in each class; however, not two in any one class. Each entry must be registered separately on or before the deadline to be entered into the competition.

Class 1 - Foliage Plants

Class 2 - Succulents

Class 3 - Herbs (can be single variety or a combination up to 3 varieties)

Class 4 - Flowering plants

Class 5 - Tomato Plant

Class 6 - Pepper Plant

Class 7 - Fruit Class (Strawberries, etc.)

Class 8 - Other Vegetable Class

I, the undersigned parent/legal guardian of the minor named above, request permission for the minor to enter the restricted area for Buc Days Horticulture Competition, participate as a contestant in Buc Days Horticulture Competition, and compete for awards. I understand that participation in Buc Days Horticulture Competition involves inherent risks, which I voluntarily assume, and I acknowledge that all general rules and guidelines outlined in the Buc Days Competitions Handbook apply and are incorporated by reference. On behalf of myself and the minor, I release the Buccaneer Commission, its officers, directors, employees, agents, and volunteers from any liability for injury or damage arising from the event, whether caused by negligence or otherwise. In an emergency, I authorize the Buccaneer Commission to obtain necessary medical treatment for the minor, with reasonable efforts made to contact me beforehand when possible. I also grant permission for the Buccaneer Commission to use photographs or video of the minor for promotional purposes, and I agree to the terms of this waiver voluntarily.
