Since 1938, the Buccaneer Commission, has been honored to host the Buccaneer Days Festival in Corpus Christi, Texas in support of bringing entertaining, educational and cultural events to the Coastal Bend. Beginning in 1996, proceeds from Buc Days have been awarded to students as college scholarships. To date, the Commission has awarded over $1.4 million in scholarships.
The Buc Days Port of Corpus Christi Leadership Program continues to be a premiere preparatory resource for high school seniors in the Coastal Bend. In order to expand and evolve the Buc Days Port of Corpus Christi Leadership Program, we are excited to share new changes to our Leadership Program Guidelines and Requirements for the upcoming 2022 season.
Updates include:
- Rebranding the Buc Days Port of Corpus Christi King and Queen Leadership Program to the Buc Days Port of Corpus Christi Leadership Program, further aligning with our mission to build and encourage young leaders in the Coastal Bend Community.
- Removal of the $10 application fee
- First generation-college students will receive additional points towards their final score
- Addition of an attendance point system for training, mentoring and Buc Days Events
- All scholars that successfully complete the 2022 Buc Days Port of Corpus Christi Leadership Program will receive an equal scholarship amount of $3,500, totaling $70,000 in scholarships.
- Introduction of a Mentoring Program where participants will be paired with a Buccaneer Commissioner(s) based on career interest. Participants will be required to submit a Final Presentation based on their involvement in the Buc Days Port of Corpus Christi Leadership Program and the outcome of their mentorship experience.
- An additional scholarship of $2,500 for the student with the highest Final Project score.
- Participants in the Leadership Program will not be required to wear a pirate or cowboy outfit as part of their commitment. The Buccaneer Commission will provide T-Shirts, polos, and traditional pirate accessories for the Leadership Program and Buc Days Events.
