Come on down to one of the best BBQ Challenges in Texas! Cooking teams from all over the country make their way to the beautiful Corpuc Christi bayfront to participate.
There are 5 categories that are judged:
Each category is judged at an appointed time between 9:00am and 5:00pm on Saturday, April 26, 2008. There will be a preliminary, semifinals, and final judging in each category. Each judging takes approximately 45 minutes to judge.
Buc Days festival attendees are invited to become a judge. You may judge more than one category, and all judges recieve free ground admittance on Saturday, April 26, 2008
The cooking teams have always been encouraged to cook meat for public sampling and this year we are adding another award to the BBQ Challenge - the People's Choice Award! All teams that are ready to sample will fly their Buc Days Black Pirate Flag to let the public know it is time to eat!
The winner of the People's Choice Award will be the team of cookers who recieve the most money in their donation jar while sampling food to the Buc Days attendees. All money collected will go towards the Buc Days Scholaship Fund.
And we will be bringing back the BBQ Pit Building Contest for 2008! Teams for 10 area high schools have been provided with the exact same materials and challenged with constructing a custom, workable, BBQ pit. The pits will be viewed during the BBQ Challenge and raffle tickets are sold for $1 each for a chance to win a pit. The contest highlights the serious need for skilled pipe fitters, welders and other process technology jobs that are available in our community. Scholarship money provided by Kiewit Offshore Services, Ltd. will be presented at this year's award ceremony.
So enjoy the BBQ, become a judge, buy a pit raffle ticket, or just walk the BBQ Challenge area to see some of the best cookers in the country do their thing!
